SafeNav and Turku AMK Explore the Metaverse to Train, Learn, and Navigate Safer

Last week at Turku University of Applied Sciences, we were introduced to something truly forward-thinking: metaverse technology for maritime operations by Matti Gröhn and his team.

We had the chance to experience how immersive virtual environments can be used for:
- Familiarization and onboarding
- Training and simulation of real-world operations
- Reviewing accidents, near-misses, and how to navigate safer in the future

This fits perfectly into SafeNav’s long-term vision, not just as a navigation co-pilot, but as a platform that helps crews learn, adapt, and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

As our CEO Capt. Jorgen Grindevoll said during the session:
“We’re not just building tools to avoid collisions, we are building a smarter safety culture. If we can help one navigator make a better decision, we have done our job.”

Big thanks to the Turku AMK team for their hospitality and for opening our minds to how immersive tech will shape the future of maritime safety.
